The EU is already preparing Montenegro's accession treaty

Speaking in Montenegro, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the EU has begun preparing Montenegro's accession treaty, one of her strongest messages yet on enlargement.

An accession treaty is one of the last formal steps on the road to EU membership: it sets out the terms on which a country joins and is then ratified by the member states and the candidate.

Montenegro already uses the euro and is widely seen as one of the most advanced candidates for membership. For buyers on the Adriatic coast, a clearer path into the EU means greater stability, easier movement and stronger long-term demand for property.

Our team can talk you through what this means for Life Bay and Ocean Crest, and for residency questions as the process moves forward.

Due to recent regulatory changes associated with Montenegro's EU accession process, the minimum qualifying real estate investment amount required for residency eligibility has been revised by local authorities.

With Montenegro's confirmed EU accession pathway, property values and tourism demand are expected to continue increasing, further strengthening the long-term investment potential of the market.
